DIGITAL EDU CONCLAVE 2023

Kerala has been providing ICT enabled education to its schools since 2001, through the then IT@School Project, now Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE). www.kite.kerala.gov.in . KITE has enabled the Kerala schools to be equipped with latest ICT gadgets, teachers and students with ICT skills, ICT textbooks, ICT content and necessary support mechanisms. Further, the use of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) in Education was also. KITE and its initiatives have been listed among the Best Practices in Education by NITI AYOG and UNICEF. It is essential to share the Best Practices and initiatives in Education in global platform in order to benefit people at large.
KITE had successfully conducted several national and international Conferences in the past in connection to ICT initiatives in Education. In 2010, KITE has conducted an International Conference at Kochi Kerala in association with UNESCO on the topic ‘Public Sector Software and FOSS in Education’, which was attended by academicians and technocrats from around the globe. The Conference gained international attention and highlighted the best practices of FOSS in Education during that time.
KITE is organizing the DIGITAL EDU-CONCLAVE 2023 in association with UNICEF, which will be held on 15th & 16th August 2023 at Thiruvananthapuram, along with Freedom Fest 2023. The event is positioned as an International Conference on Digital Education Experience sharing, wherein not only the achievements of Kerala in Education section can be highlighted, but can also be a public platform for showcasing the Best Practices in Digital Education. The 2-day event will be attended b educational experts, ICT champions, senior bureaucrats, academic professionals and alike. The event will feature seminars, forums, exhibitions, knowledge sharing interactive sessions and would also provide an opportunity for the audience to listen and interact to renowned experts in Digital Education sector. We are hopeful that this International Conference would bring value not only for the State Govt, but for all Stakeholders in Education and also for the public.
The tentative schedule of the conclave is as follows

Sessions on
1. Use of FOSS (Free and Open Source Software) in Education Kerala has pioneered the use of FOSS in Education by deploying its own FOSS based Operating System KITE GNU Linux in over 2 lakh computers in schools. Several FOSS based educational applications are pre-loaded in the OS. 2. Little KITES IT Clubs Little KITES is the largest ICT network of students in India with over 3.75 lakh members. Selected through an aptitude test, these students are trained in numerous latest technologies, who in turn train their counterparts and even parents. 3. KOOL platform for teachers’ trainings Developed on a MOOC platform, over 30,000 teachers have been trained through KOOL without affecting their teaching hours. 4. eCube English eLanguage Lab eCube English is a project to improve students from Classes 1 to 8. E3 (Enjoy, Enhance, and Enrich), which not only help students’ command of the language but also make learning more fun. 5. KITE VICTERS educational channel Operational since 2006, KITE VICTERS is aired for 24/7 and covers over 93% households in Kerala. VICTERS played a vital role in ensuring education for over 43 lakh students during Covid-19 times through its First Bell Digital Classes. 6. Digital Media literacy programmes. As part of Satyameva Jayathe Fake News prevention training, over 20 lakh students of Std 5 to 10 were trained. Digital literacy trainings have also been initiated in the State. 7. Sahitham Mentoring portal The portal provides mentoring support to students for harmonising their social and emotional skills along with academic competencies. The mentor teacher gets to closely observe, study and record online the academic, socio-linguistic skills, social awareness, scientific aptitude etc of each students and plan and implement corrective actions. 8. Sampoorna School Management Software Sampoorna is mandatory for all schools for capturing all details of students. Made fully on FOSS, it is the one-stop source of student details for all academic and administrative purposes. 9. The Hi-Tech projects in 16000 schools Through the Rs.493.50 Cr Hi-Tech Project in 4752 Secondary schools and Rs.300 Cr Hi-Tech Lab project in 11257 Primary schools, over 4.40 Lakhs ICT equipment and Hi-Tech Labs have been set-up. Essential support systems have also been put in place. |
